Many Americans struggle to lose unwanted fat, and some unscrupulous companies have positioned themselves to take advantage by selling potentially harmful diet drugs that typically don't work. Recently, numerous companies have begun selling human chorionic gonadotropin as a weight-loss aid. There are numerous online HCG diet reviews touting the supplement as an effective option for weight watchers; however, according to the FDA, these claims are unfounded.

What is it?

A hormone generated by the placenta, human chorionic gonadotropin has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat specific medical conditions, including infertility; however, the agency has not approved the hormone as a diet drug.

The FDA issues warnings

Although there are all sorts of HCG diet reviews recommending the supplement as an effective diet drug, the FDA is crying foul. Recently, the agency issued warning letters to numerous companies selling homeopathic human chorionic gonadotropin drops as weight loss aids.

According to Ilisa Bernstein, acting director of the agency's Office of Compliance, there is no proof that human chorionic gonadotropin would benefit weight watchers. What's more, Bernstein warns that improper use of the hormone may cause harmful side effects.

Are HCG diet reviews real?

According to Bernstein, the FDA may bring legal action against companies promoting human chorionic gonadotropin as a weight loss aid; however, this hasn't stopped many businesses from marketing the product using fake online reviews.

Although these posts often appear to originate from dieters, they're frequently crafted by the companies who sell the product. Unfortunately, since many of these businesses are based outside the United States, the FDA doesn't always have the power to stop their deceptive marketing campaigns.
