NFL Picks: 2 Crazy Upset Predictions

Each week, NFL teams perform inconsistently, and bettors are having a difficult time finding reliable trends to help them place their wagers. With so much parity on display, it seems that the only thing you can count on is that you can't count on anything at all. Still, when the league is so unpredictable, gamblers can begin to bet on the unpredictability itself. This week, expect a pair of inconsistent favorites to do what they do best: confound and confuse their fans.

Tampa Bay Bucs over the Houston Texans

Houston visits Tampa Bay having won three games in a row. The Texans are favored by only 3.5 points, a seemingly low spread considering how they've dominated recently. Additionally, Tampa Bay has struggled somewhat and is riddled with injuries along the defensive line. Still, Houston has performed inconsistently, and the Bucs have had two weeks to prepare. Look for Tampa to hang close enough to cover the spread.

Tennessee Titans over the Carolina Panthers

Everyone is on the Cam Newton bandwagon these days, including the odds-makers. For no good reason, the 2-6 Panthers are 3.5 favorites over the Titans despite having one of the worst rush defenses in the NFL. Even if Newton is able to score a lot of points, Carolina won’t be able to stop Chris Johnson and the Titan running attack. Expect a similar game to what Carolina played against Adrian Peterson and Minnesota, when they lost at home 24-21. At bare minimum, take the Titans and the 3.5 points.
