How to Lose Stomach Fat? Probiotics, says Study

For many, losing weight is a frustrating endeavor that leaves them with troubling problem areas around the midsection and thighs. Unfortunately, there are all sorts of companies that seek to take advantage of people who don’t know how to lose stomach fat by offering fad products and potentially dangerous supplements. Most experts agree there is no real secret to losing fatty abdominal tissue other than eating a low-calorie diet and exercising consistently. That said, a pair of recent studies suggest dieters may be able to enhance their efforts by changing their intestinal flora.

Changing Intestinal microflora

Recently, a study conducted by researchers from Snow Brand Milk Products reinforced previous findings suggesting that probiotics can help dieters lose stomach fat. Previously, researchers at Kyushu University proved that fermented milk altered the composition of intestinal microflora in mice to speed their metabolisms. To see if this applied to humans, this latest study gave several subjects a fermented milk product containing the probiotic Lactobacillus. After twelve weeks, the researchers noted a 4.6 percent drop in abdominal fat, along with a 3.3 percent drop in subcutaneous fat.

A Cause of Obesity?

According to a recent paper published in a 2006 issue of Nature, obese people tend to have different microbial populations than lean individuals; and, when people lose weight, their microflora tend to change back to a so-called normal range. This has led many experts to suspect that microflora may have something to do with why some people have more trouble maintaining healthy weights.

Best Way to Lose Stomach Fat?

Although research suggests that probiotics may encourage trimmer waistlines; dieters aren’t likely to see much improvement unless they create a caloric deficiency by consuming less food and exercising more. That said, if you’re interested in losing belly fat, probiotics may be worth a try. Other studies have already suggested that they may have the ability to boost the immune system; and most people report few – if any – side-effects when consuming reasonable amounts.
